Grunge Fashion-Own it!

I know I have been posting a lot of literature and social kind of posts. For all the fashion lovers, here is an absolute fashion post. It's about Grunge.

Grunge is a sub-genre of Alternative rock music that was first introduced in early-1990’s popularized by bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. In the beginning, this fashion came out of the financial hardships of the times, combined with the regional growth of alternative rock music. It combines the punk elements mixed with inexpensive working class clothing. The development of grunge also brought back ripped and shredded clothing popular during the early 1980’s. This style was soon picked up by the designers and turned into a well-known fashion trend, while many capitalist excess rejected such fashion.

The essential for this style is to keep an unkempt look. The pieces clothes are paired together that do not match together. There are many layering in the clothing for example; a long sleeved t-shirt can be worn under a tank top, topped off with a baggy cardigan sweater or hoodie jacket. A plaid flannel shirt is one of the most recognizable elements of grunge fashion. It is usually over-sized and worn untucked, it can be layered over a t-shirt or long sleeved undershirt. The color for this style is muted and the fabric are faded and worn out. Flannel is a popular fabric for grunge because it is available in so many different colors and is usually inexpensive.

Jeans are another important element. The jeans are supposed to be worn out with rips and holes. The jeans can be intentionally cut or ripped to achieve the grunge look. Granny dresses which are long, loose-fitting cotton dresses often with flowered pattern are something which a female with grunge style would wear. The short slip dresses and baby doll dresses might be paired with ripped tights or leggings with rips and holes in it. The tights and leggings can be of different colors.

Grunge footwear consists of worn-out high top tennis shoes or scuffed combat boots for both men and women. The hairstyle for both men and women are usually messy and limp. The hair is usually long and loose, which may look like it hasn’t been washed or brushed in several days. People with grunge style may also bleach and dye their hair in different colors. Hats are not used in grunge style but beanies and baseball caps are an exception. There are no jewelries related to this style.

It is simple and inexpensive to own this style. The only constant feature of grunge fashion is plaid and worn out, ripped and shredded jeans. Grunge fashion screams,” I don’t give a f***” attitude. The look is dark and edgy. Clothing is inexpensive, worn and often ill-fitting, since this style is also a reflection of the financial situation faced by a generation of young people in the early 1990’s. Kurt Cobain carried this style the best. Kurt Donald Cobain was an American musician who was best known as the lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the grunge band Nirvana. Courtney Love also is an icon for grunge fashion for girls. Courtney Michelle Love is an American alternative rock singer, songwriter, musician, actress, and visual artist.

Own the grunge fashion, this summer.
